Ironman UK
A good friend of the charity, Ian Kitson, is competing in the UK’s only full length Ironman event in July. Ian is a seasoned triathlete but this is going to be his first ever Ironman. Describing his training alone throws up some huge figures in terms of distances swam, ran and cycled.
This is a huge personal challenge for him to complete the event and he’s incredibly dedicated and inspirational in his determination to compete.
To put the scale of the challenge into context, the event consists of:
A two-loop 2.4 mile (3.8 km) swim course at Pennington Flash Country Park
A three-loop, 112 mile (180.2 km) bike course which runs in an anti-clockwise direction. Athletes will travel from Pennington Flash to Bolton for the first few miles, before taking on the three-loop bike course. The course then continues through the northern countryside before finishing in Bolton town centre.
A four-loop 26.2 mile (42.2 km) run course laps around Bolton town centre before ascending through the scenic Queen’s Park to Chorley New Road. Athletes will then pass numerous spectator hotspots before finishing at Victoria Square.
More information about the event can be found in the link below, including details on how to follow Ian during the event by downloading the ‘Athlete Tracker’ from Google Play or App Store.
It is therefore very humbling for us that he’s chosen Siblings United to be the charity that he will support whilst taking part in this event. We’re incredibly grateful for this, so thankyou Ian.
